The 2nd day of the second Investec Ashes Test match moved forward at a rapid pace. The day saw 16 wicket falling, a surprising fact with the excellent batting conditions available for both sides.

England resumed with their score on 289/7, Bresnan losing his wicket to Ryan Harris the first delivery of the day. As with the first test, the trend of 10th wicket partnerships continued, as Broad and Swann flayed the ball to all parts of the ground, taking the England score to 361, before Broad was the last wicket to fall when he was caught behind off the bowling of Pattinson. Ryan Harris ended as top wicket taker for Australia with 5/72.

Australia looked to be going well, Watson and Rogers putting on an opening stand of 42 in double quick time, before Watson was trapped lbw by Bresnan for 30. Australia proceeded to collapse from there on, no one able to settle in and put together any meaningful partnership. Graeme Swann was in devastating form, taking 5/44, extracting a huge amount of turn from the Lord’s track. Michael Clarke was the second highest scorer for Australia with hos score of 28 from 41 balls. Australia managing only 128 runs, giving England a huge first innings lead of 233 runs.

Peter Siddle ended the day off well for Australia, when he managed to strike three times towards the end of day two, taking the wicket of Cook, Trott and Pietersen. England ended the day on 31/3 after 20 overs, Siddle with the amazing figures of 3/4 from 5 over behind his name. England thus end the day with a lead of 264 runs, with 7 second innings wickets intact, still a commanding position.
