The New Zealand Black Caps will be happy with their performance on the opening day of the first test match against Bangladesh played in Chittagong.

New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum won the toss, and elected to make first use of the decent batting conditions on offer. The opening pair of Fulton and Rutherford put on a stable opening partnership of 57 runs, before Rutherford was caught by Abdur Razzak off the bowling of Sohag Gazi in the 23rd over, scoring 34.

Fulton and Williamson got the innings well under way, putting on a 126 runs partnership, to take the score to 183, before Fulton lost his wicket to the bowling of Nasir Hossain for a very well-played 73. H will perhaps be disappointed by the fact that he missed out on his 3rd test century, having had every opportunity to reach triple figures.

Williamson on the other hand, showed excellent patience, before losing his wicket in the penultimate over of the days play to score his 4th test hundred. Williamson his 12 fours in his 114, which came off 210 deliveries, before he was trapped lbw by a very well flighted Shakib Al Hasan delivery.

The Black Caps will be slightly dissapinted with the loss of key wicket late in the day, when Taylor, Williamson and captain McCullum all lost their wickets in the last 10 overs of the days play. New Zeland ended the day with 280 runs on the board, with 5 wickets down. They went at a decent run rate of 3/11 runs per over.

Abdur Razzak was the top wicket taker for Bangladesh, ending with figures of 2/100, bowling 32 overs in the days play.
