Earlier, starting the day at 267 for 2 England lost their first wicket without adding a single run to the scoreboard. Jonathan Trott was dismissed at 121 by Trent Boult. They lost their 4th wicket at 304 and fifth wicket at 325 when it looked like they might not go to score 400 runs. But Kevin Petersen scored 73 runs and Matt Prior scored an important innings of 82 runs that helped England put on a total of 465 runs. Bruce Martin continued his good form and picked up 4 wickets for 130 runs. While Neil Wagner, Trent Boult and Kane Williamson each picked up 2 wickets.
New Zealand on their innings started off to a slow start because of some nice bowling by the English bowlers. They lost their first wicket of inform opener Peter Fulton at 6. Rutherford and Kane Williamson was batting sensibly and rescued the initial breakdown. But they had major blow as Rutherford was dismissed at 48 runs and to add more to the blow Ross Taylor was also dismissed the very next ball with a golden duck. Williamson and Brownlie then spent the rest of the day without any further damage. The former is batting at 32 while the latter is at 8. Stuart Broad picked up 2 wickets for 18 runs and James Anderson had 1 wicket for 17 runs. It is to see if they can avoid the follow on tomorrow. They need to bat extremely well to avoid the follow on.
