Pakistan avenged their 1 run loss in the opening ODI when beating South Africa by 66 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. The Pakistani spinner dominated the South African batting line-up, securing an easy win.

Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to bat first. Jamshed continued his poor run on ODI cricket, when he was caught well by Tsotsobe in the outfield for 1, again attempting a pull shot. Shehzad and Hafeez got some momentum into the innings, putting on a well-constructed 48 runs partnership, before Hafeez was bowled by McLaren for 26 off 32 balls. Shehzad went on to score another fifty before throwing away his wicket on 58 when he was caught and bowled by Tahir in the 29th over. Amin and Akmal again got off to starts, failing to carry on to the end of the innings. McLaren ripped through the Pakistan batting order end with figures of 4/34 form his 10 overs to restrict them to 209 all out with two balls still remaining from their 50 overs quota.

Ingram failed once again, scoring just 4, when he was bowled by Tanvir. The South African innings seemed to be similar to the opening ODI with Smith and Duminy batting at the same pace, and both losing their wicket in quick succession to leave South Africa on the back for on 49/3. The Pakistan spinners took over, wripping the South African batting apart, with Ajmal, Afridi and Hafeez taking 6 wicket between them. The balance of the wickets were taken by Irfan, ending with figures of 3/53. South Africa were bowled out for 142, McLaren top scoring for his side with 29* off 43 balls.

The series is now levelled at 1-1, and with the form of the Pakistan spin attack, South Africa will have to find a way of coping with them, if they are to get a way back into the series.
