It will be no easy task for Mumbai to start the tournament off with a win, and with the short format of the league, every game is crucial, with very little chances of coming back into contention once you start lacking behind. Rohit Sharma will be in charge of the Mumbai side, being rewarded for the good job he did during the IPL as captain. Mumbai have the services of both Glenn Maxwell and Kieron Pollard, both x factor players who are able to change the outcome of a game within a few overs, with both bat and ball. The experience of Harbhajan Singh with the ball will be important as to how far Mumbai progress in the tournament. Many players have had little cricket of late, so expect plenty of rusty performances.

Rajasthan Royals will be captained by Rahul Dravid, still playing Twenty20 cricket at 40 years of age. Together with the 38 year old Brad Hodge, the Royals have plenty of experience to call on during the tournament. Shane Watson will be the most relied on player, he showed during the last IPL how destructive he can be with the bat in hand, and played a few belting inning’s against the England side during the Ashes tour. They don’t have the same depth at Mumbai, and will hope that injuries stay away, as one big injury during a short tournament, can change the dynamic of the team immensely.

The sides know each other well, and Mumbai lead the head to head between the sides by 7-5. Expect a closely contested match.
