England is already down losing the 1st ODI to New Zealand. But that had even major blow losing Stuart Broad and Steven Finn even before the start of the 1st ODI match. Now the report is saying that even it is not sure whether they will be able to play in the ICC Champions Trophy or not. New Zealand on the other hand is free of injury problem and bowlers are performing well. Southee especially on the first ODI bowled really well to help New Zealand dismiss English batting line up for just 227 runs. But the batting remains a matter of concern for both the teams as New Zealand too had problem with their batting and except for Martin Guptill who scored a century and almost single handedly taken New Zealand to the victory. In the last ODI batting first England could only score 227 runs and for Guptill even after losing 2 quick wickets in the 1st over New Zealand chased down the small target of 228 runs easily though they had to lose 5 wickets for that. Among English bowlers the two substitutes of Stuart Broad and Steven Finn, Chris Woaks and Darnbath were expensive. They couldn’t really fill up the positions of two regular bowlers. Former gave away 45 runs in just 6 overs while the latter gave 55 runs in his 10 overs. New Zealand didn’t even play experienced Daniel Vittory in the 1st ODI. Brandon McCullum is excited for the win in the first match and praised his team mates for a good performance.

England: England have missed the two experienced bowler Stuart Broad and Steven Finn in the 1st ODI and they will not be playing in this 2nd ODI as well. Source said that they are unsure for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy as well and if that is true than that will be a major blow for the team even in hope of winning the trophy for the first time. Batting was not well for England in the first ODI as well as no batsmen could score big runs and there were no good partnership in their innings. And the replacements of Broad and Finn was also not enough. So they must rethink their strategy and also find out form so that they can go on to play on Champions Trophy with full form and confidence. Boyd Rankins who played for Ireland have been called for the match by England.

New Zealand: New Zealand would be happy to be back in the form after disappointing performance in the test series where they were whitewashed by the English team. In the first ODI they bowled really well and then chased down the total easily. But their batting wasn’t really on top as they lost 2 wickets in just 1 run in the 1st over. They should be looking for a good start and the other batsmen must hit back form along with Guptill who scored a century in the first ODI so that they can go on to play ICC Champions Trophy in full form.
