Series Preview: New Zealand is touring Bangladesh again after 3 years. Last time they played in Bangladesh was in 2010 in a 5 match one day international series in which they were whitewashed by the tigers. Since then it is their first tour in Bangladesh. This time they are up for a full tour in which will start with the 2 match test series followed by a 3 match ODI series and a T20 International match. The last time New Zealand played a test series in Bangladesh was back in 2008. On that series Bangladesh managed their only draw against New Zealand and had their best performance against the black caps. They could have won the series as well if Daniel Vettori hadn’t stood up with his best. He alone had saved New Zealand from the match and the series loss. Wickets in subcontinent have always been spin friendly and those countries which are not from subcontinent always struggle in such wicket. This New Zealand side probably is the weakest side of their history touring Bangladesh. In batting Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor are the only star players for the black caps while in bowling there is no Vittory or Southe in the squad. Bangladesh on the other hand would be under pressure as well as they are playing in a test series after a long time. Besides, after the recent performance of Zimbabwe people of Bangladesh would be expecting more from the cricketers of the country.

Team News

Bangladesh: Bangladesh in this test series would be under massive pressure as Zimbabwe have come in front of Bangladesh in the ranking and also New Zealand is much more weaker than the team which last played in the test series here. They will rely on the spinners like always while in batting they need to show consistency as well. The only lacking for the team is the fast bowling department as there is no real fast bowlers in the squad and their most experienced fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza is out because of injury as well. They will miss the service of Mohammad Ashraful as well who is banned from cricket for match fixing.

New Zealand: New Zealand on the other hand would be poised to take revenge of their last tour in the country in which they were whitewashed by the host in the one day series. But in this mission they are without their best bowler Daniel Vittory and Tim Southy. Even all the 4 fast bowlers who are almost certain to be playing have no experience of playing in Bangladesh. Brendon McCullum will lead the side and he is the most experienced player for the side. Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson are two other experienced batsmen.

The first match will be played in Chittagong starting from 9am IST.
