Match Preview: South Africa leads the 5 match ODI series 1-0. They won the first match by a massive 125 rubs margin. After 5 days of the first match the second match is taking place which is sufficient enough for fading the momentum as well as for regrouping. So both the teams will go with a fresh mind and this one is a new match and Pakistan will try to fight back. Pakistan in the first ODI had a poor team selection and they suffered badly for that. South Africa on the other hand had a perfect match and resulting them to win by such a big margin. But South Africa can’t think Pakistan out of the series. Pakistan after their start in the test series kept improving and they can do it even better in the shorter format. Moreover Pakistan is the side known to play their best when they are cornered and recent controversy of the side and after the defeat in the 1st ODI they are exactly a cornered side and would fight to turn the tide.
South Africa: South Africa had a perfect first match. their openers were steady at the beginning and then in the middle order they built partnership and scored at a good run rate and in the end their batsmen slogged well and took the team score pass 300 runs. Bowlers then bowled really well to defend that total. Whenever Pakistan’s partnership looked to be a threat they picked up wickets and thus never let Pakistan settle a good partnership that could hurt them badly. Captain AB De Villiers would be happy with the team effort. He himself played well and scored 65 runs while Ingram scored a century in the middle order. Amla scored 43 and in the end Behardien scored quick fired 34 runs to take the score pass 300 runs. Kleinveldt took 4 wickets and McLaren picked up 3 wickets and was in form. So they also got back their strike bowler Steyn who recovered from injury and is ready to play on the 2nd ODI.
Pakistan: Pakistan had a poor game plan on the 1st ODI and they paid for that. They went on to field first on a batting track which let them down at the very beginning as South Africa scored more than 300 runs. They went with only 2 fast bowlers in a South African wicket which is more supportive for fast bowlers than spinners. Batsmen scored some runs but couldn’t convert them to a big innings and most all the batsmen got out at 30s and 20s. For this reason they didn’t have any partnership at all and went on to get bowled out for just 190 runs chasing 316 runs. Among bowlers only Hafeez and Ajmal maintained a good economy and also picked up wickets. Ajmal was the peak of the bowlers with 2 wickets. Junaid and Hafeez took 1 wicket each and rest remained wicketless. But the thing Pakistan captain will be relaxed as Afridi is getting back to the form and if he does we all know what he can do. Hafeez and Jamshed just need to convert their innings to a big one so that the later batsmen can go on to slog well. Pakistan might go with 3 fast bowlers in the 2nd match and if they do so then either Asad Shafiq or Shoaib Malik will have to be benched.
