The Dubai International Cricket Stadium is the venue to the second test between Pakistan and South Africa, starting on Wednesday. It will be the venue where Pakistan will hope to make history, as they go into the test match with a 1-0 series lead, and every chance of upsetting the number 1 test side in the world.
As expected it was the spin of Pakistan that caused the most headaches for the South African batting line-up. Will Pakistan opt to gamble and include a third specialist spinner in their side? They have a more than capable Abdur Rehman in the squad. Since dropping Mohammad Hafeez from the test squad, it has left them slightly vulnerable, losing his all-round ability. It will be interesting to see how the Pakistan openers cope second time around against the South Africa pace attack. They were bundled out early in the second innings, which might have given South Africa a slight bit of confidence going into the second test.
The South African woes grew after the completion of the first test, with Hashim Amla and bowling coach Allan Donald both returning home for personal reasons. The pressure will be immense on Jacques Kallis, who will have to be the mainstay of the top order, with very little cricket under his belt. Youngster Dean Elgar will most likely come into the side, with very little experience in the local conditions. He does however bowl some decent spin, which might add to the quality of the bowling. Imran Tahir will almost be a certain selections, as the spin of Robin Peterson was nothing short of poor, with very little penetration shown by him.
Pakistan have the chance to create history, the experience of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan will be vital to lead the youngsters, who will have to be careful that their emotions don’t get the better of them.
